About

Established in 2004 D2C is an architectural planning business whose office is situated on the north side of York in North Yorkshire. The firm specialises in the full realisation of plans - taking ideas right through from initial concept to final execution.

D2C has a growing portfolio of completed buildings Thus it has refined its resources and experience to be able to satisfy planning and building control requirements whilst enabling clients to fulfil their true ambitions. We believe in the value of frequent communication – both with the regulatory authorities from the relevant local council and with our clients.

With a studio that is set in former farm buildings we are particularly interested in intimate rural developments. Barn conversions and functional changes to agricultural buildings have been conceived and executed with outstanding results. Wherever possible we welcome the opportunity to introduce some artistic flourish and contemporary style to architecture. At the same time, we always bear in mind. that the ultimate function of the building is paramount.

It should be emphasised that our work has not been exclusively in the countryside. We have also executed many jobs in urban settings – including the refurbishment of commercial premises, outbuilding conversions and work on schools.

The team consists of two principal partners who are problem solvers and dedicated to improving the condition of physical space.

The principal architect is Zhen Tang who is Chinese born but has been a denizen of Yorkshire for over 20 years. She graduated in Architecture Department from Hunan University (China) in 1993 before going on to study at L'Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-La Villette (ENSAPLV) and she graduated from that institution with DPLG in 2002.This combination of Chinese, French and British influences - imbued with her astute sensitivity in art and literature -gives her work bold conviction and distinction.

The Projects Director is Stephen Otterburn. He studied Law at University College, London before moving on to a 27-year career in the oil and gas industry. There he managed many large scale well completion projects and developed a heightened sense of what is affordable, buildable and sustainable.

Through a network developed over several years D2C can often access related services on behalf of clients where required. These include -surveying services – legal advice – specialist design software runs - and construction trades.
